Podcasts Every College Student Should be Listening to

Podcasts. We all know about them and we all love them. When I first saw the app on my iPhone, I thought it was just another app I would have to pay to use, until one day I thought “Hmm, let me see what this app is really about”. Ever since then, I’ve been addicted! Podcasts about empowering women, podcasts about political current events, even podcasts about true crime (I’m actually addicted to these). The best part- they’re free to listen to!

Podcasts are an awesome alternative to music that allows you to learn about different things while you’re working out, running errands, and even walking between classes. With there being so many different podcasts out there, I collected a list of a few I believe every college student should have on their list of podcasts to listen to!

For twenty minutes a day, five days a week, Michael Barbaro talks about important things going on in the US news that everyone should know about and keep informed on. This is one of my favorite podcasts to listen to. I have a pretty busy schedule with work, studying, etc. So watching the news for an hour or more is on the bottom of my list. Plus, I don’t think I can pay attention to the news for long listening to everything that’s going on in my city and also thinking about everything I need to do before the day is done. The Daily fixed this for me. It’s easy to listen to and straight to the point with political news. It keeps me informed about what’s going on with our government all while I drive to work. If you’re interested in getting political- listen to The Daily here.

Every Tuesday, Veronica Dagher hosts a new executive, workplace pioneer, self-made entrepreneurs, industry trendsetters, and money-savvy experts to reveal insights on how to reach your goals, achieve professional success, and get ahead. I learned about this podcast from one of my favorite Instagram/ Youtube influencers- Valeria Lipovetsky. She’s a strong, hard-working mama who’s making her own empire- so inspiring! Something I especially love about this podcast is that its focus is on women! Strong, successful, professional women. It’s truly empowering to listen to a woman who’s beginning was just like everyone else and hearing how they started their own empire. Some of these women started from nothing and made their way to the top with or even without the help of others. And, at the end of each episode, we get to hear these amazing women’s money making secret!

Let’s be honest, we all love a good TED Talk. I attended as many as I could whenever they would host one at my college or colleges nearby because the guests they typically have are so inspiring to listen to. The fun thing about this podcast is that they have tons of them in different genres! They are really easy to binge once you’ve started listening to them. My favorite and go-to right now is the Health & Medicine TED Talks, but they also have music, business, education, and so much more! They always have great guests and the conversation is sure to keep you interested while you work or run errands.

If you’re anything like me, you like to learn about random facts. With Stuff You Should Know, your dates or dinner with family will never go without any random interesting facts because you’ll have learned some interesting stuff from them! Some things they talk about include how airbags work, how schizophrenia works, and how lobotomies work. Not sure why you need to know this stuff? Me neither! But once you start learning about all of these different things, you won’t want to stop.

Like the TED Talks, NPR has so many different genres of podcasts you can listen to. I used to think listening to NPR was for “old people”. That was when I was twelve. Twelve year old Steph would be shocked to learn that NPR is now our favorite podcast to listen to daily. I binge these shows and never get bored with listening to their medicine podcasts or even their political podcast! Interested in giving them a listen? Bonus podcast for my true- crime fans:

Okay, okay, I know what I said before about NPR being my go to podcast and binging it, but I may have lied. I’ve recently come across a new true-crime podcast that I have been obsessing over- Generation Why.

Generation Why releases an episode every Sunday. I tend to not listen to podcasts on Sunday since I’m usually studying, so Mondays are my Generation Why days and I always look forward to it! Aaron and Justin, the two hosts of this podcast are great guys who talk about theories and give their opinions on unsolved murders, controversies, mysteries, and conspiracies. They are great at telling the story of these unsolved murders and really keep you interested! I listen to a lot of true-crime and am definitely not lying when I say they are in my top two!

If you’re a true-crime fanatic, you will definitely love this one. Check it out here!

I’m excited for you all to give them a listen! If you do, let me know which one you liked best in the comments below. Also, let me know what podcasts you’re listening to that you think we should all give a try! I’d love to add some new ones to my list 🙂
