7 Books All GirlBosses Should Read in 2019

“This is a man’s world”.

Throughout history, women have been put down time and time again. However, with recent events and everyday movements by every amazing woman out there, we’re making changes for the better and we’re not giving up. We’re stronger, better, and smarter than we were before and are only continuing to grow. We are learning how to be a GirlBoss and growing businesses everyday. So yes, it is a man’s world, but as said in Jame’s Brown song, “It wouldn’t be nothing without a woman or a girl”.

After graduating in 2017 and moving on to working in a very much male-dominated field, I decided I’m not just going to sit quietly and let the men take control. I’ve stood up for myself and proven that as a woman, I can do everything (if not more than) a man can do, and I can do it all while having a relationship, a side job, and one day having kids.

Below, I’m going to share with you 8 books by amazing female entrepreneurs that are as inspiring as they are strong. These books offer invaluable tip straight from the business pros. They’ll make you laugh, cry, but most importantly, they will give you the inspiration you need to make those positive changes in your career and life in this new year.

#GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso

What better way to start your GirlBoss journey than with the original book itself! Sophia Amoruso’s book, #GIRLBOSS, was one of the first books I read on female entrepreneurship . I LOVE books, but typically I would stick to fictional novels. One day, I was looking for my next read and stumbled upon her book, #GIRLBOSS. After looking into it (and finding out she works for Nasty Gal), I immediately ordered it.

Sophia’s story is completely inspiring! She started out as a struggling young adult, selling clothes on eBay that she would find thrifting and alter them. After struggling for a while, she took matters into her own hands and turned this hobby into a full-time business! She’s now the founder and CEO of Nasty Gal and Girlboss. Her book tells about her story and how no matter where you come from or what you do, you can become a business success! Who better to learn how to be a GirlBoss from?

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero

Jen Sincero is funny, relatable, and, you guessed it, inspiring! She makes you want to take a hard look at your life and let go of the fears, take the risks you’ve always wanted to take, make that money, and find that love.

The book’s cover always caught my attention. It wasn’t until I finally picked it up and read the description that I realized this book was for me (and literally everyone in this world). Jen’s most important lesson teaches us how to identify and change the self-sabotaging behaviors that stop you from getting what you want to create a life you love. Jen teaches you how to be the badass you already are, you just need a little shove in the right direction! This book provides that shove!

Bossypants by Tina Fey

I’ve always been a fan of Tina Fey, especially in her Saturday Night Live days. I’ve always known she was a great comedian and an awesome actress, but what I didn’t know was the long-winded, uphill battle she fought to secure her spot in comedy.

Tina’s book is hilarious, which is not surprising. And although she keeps it light, her writing tells women everywhere that instead of complaining about the injustices of the world, we should just laugh off the nonsense and make some money while doing it!

Tina shows women that no matter the battles you face, you can come out stronger than your male counterpart. You may have to fight harder, but it’ll be that much more worth it!

  1. I love reading and have seen all these books but haven’t read any of these books. Last year I started reading more business books as opposed to novels. I haven’t really thought about reading business books by boss babes but I’m so glad I came across your post. It absolutely opened my eyes to books I should read from a woman’s perspective because I am involved in 3 different businesses. Thank you so much Raheela

    1. Three different businesses? That’s so awesome! I’m so happy you enjoyed the blog and are considering reading these books! They really are all such inspiring stories to read and will make you want to work that much harder to take over the business world.
